Ngāmotu Precinct Development

The proposed Coolstores development would reinvigorate the Ngāmotu Precinct.

Like the Coastal Walkway before it, the proposed development of the Ngāmotu Precinct would open up and breathe life into a neglected part of our city — complementing and living in harmony with its neighbours, be they existing enterprises, Moturoa residents or mana whenua.

Thoughtful planning and the use of best practice urban design principles would be used throughout to ensure the precinct is a real draw card for locals and visitors alike – the next, and possibly best, jewel in New Plymouth’s world-class crown.

A Space for Everyone

  • Residential

Thoughtful planning and use of best practice urban design principles will be a real drawcard for those wanting to make this home.

  • Commercial

Working port precincts have worked around the world and in New Zealand. We want business leaders, innovators, entrepreneurs to share in a vision and create exciting commercial opportunities that align with urban living.

  • Cultural

Like the coastal walkway before it Ngāmotu Precinct will be a mecca for locals and visitors. Ngāmotu Precinct opens up and breathes new life into a neglected part of our city where people love to work, live and play.

The Ngāmotu Story.

For the majority of its 250-plus years of inhabited history, industry, business, residents, and recreational users have thrived in the area side-by-side

The Current Context

New Plymouth has a proud history of visionary ventures – and the Ngāmotu Precinct has all the right ingredients to be the City’s next transformative development.

“It’s no secret that for a long time our hapu has longed to be reunited with this piece of whenua. The proposed Ngāmotu Precinct is part of our Turangawaewae.

So many of Ngāti Te Whiti’s stories, tūpuna and taonga are connected to this land. For Ngāti Te Whiti the Ngāmotu Precinct could be the once in a generation opportunity for Ngāti Te Whiti to return home.”
